The Traditional Customs of the Taiwanese.
- Authors
SŁAWIŃSKI, ROMAN
- Abstract
The article looks at Taiwanese traditions and customs. According to the author, many of these customs originated in China and were largely preserved despite modernization and external influences from countries such as the Netherlands and Japan. It is suggested that folk customs were better preserved in Taiwan than in China, where the communist regime of Mao Zedong sought to eliminate many traditions. Details on Taiwanese family life, naming customs, marriage rituals, and holiday celebrations are presented.
