- Abstract
The article discusses the geopolitics of Greenland and the polar regions in the Cold War. The historical need for research in extreme environments is discussed, the construction of military facilities in Greenland is examined, and the effect of French explorations of Greenland on U.S. military activities is analyzed. Other topics of discussion include the development of military logistics such as supplying troops in extreme conditions with food, fuel, and other supplies as well as the history of the weather station-cum-military base Thule, Greenland.
