- Abstract
This article discusses maids' and servants' wages during the late 18th century in Argentina. It examines the role of the Defensor de Naturales of San Miguel de Tucumán and his advocacy for their rights as workers. The author studies the government regulations developed as a result of the Defensor's presentation, including those regarding retribution and broader labor laws. The right for the domestic workers to choose where to work, the influence of the city council (Cabildo) to interfere in such domestic matters, and other social considerations are also explored.
