- Abstract
Reflexivity matters, both in relation to oneself as a researcher and in relation to one's own scientific-theoretical basic assumptions. Reflexivity is a prerequisite for successful communication within research fields, but it is not yet the status quo in IR norm research. This is surprising for two reasons: First, the problem of double hermeneutics is particularly relevant for this field, and second, it is precisely in norm research's inherent normativity that the specific situatedness of researchers is significantly reflected. Against this backdrop, this forum contribution encourages norm researchers to make their meta-theoretical starting points and research practices transparent. In order to facilitate a systematic examination of the effects of one's own presuppositions on the research process, we present a question grid based on the three-part heuristic of autobiographical situatedness, in-field situatedness and situatedness in the text. The combination of this heuristic with the analytical dimensions "researcher as a person" and "scientific theoretical basic assumptions" results in questions that facilitate and enrich the reflection on one's own research as well as communication in IR norm research.
