- Title
LET THERE BE LIGHT... AND ACCESSIBILITY.
- Authors
Wilkinson, Kaija
- Abstract
The article discusses the recent transformation of the busiest entrance at New York Penn Station, which involved the installation of three new state-of-the-art KONE escalators and an American with Disabilities Act-compliant elevator. The renovation was a result of a public-private partnership between Amtrak and Vornado Realty Trust and took four years to complete. The upgrades increased capacity and efficiency of movement between the station's mezzanine level and the entrance, while also ensuring accessibility for all. The project also included widening sidewalks along 7th Avenue and replacing an old concrete overhang with a new glass canopy designed by Foster + Partners.
