The article focuses on the development of the Sundanese dances in Indonesia. In the regions of Sunda, central Java, and Bali are known to have traditional standard of dances. In Sunda, still they were no religious or imperial patronage who survived but the dance had to develop only for the welfare of the people interested in it. Moreover, it presents categories of Sundanese dances according to their general purpose, which includes ritual and ceremonial dances and dances of self-defense.
