- Abstract
This paper aims to analyze, from a gender perspective, one of the main demands of care received by social work professionals, the problems arising from the need of care that people have. Being this a complex issue with important implications at different levels (economic, social, psychological, legal, etc.), the object of reflection has been limited to activities related to dependent care exclusion of other dimensions, for example, care of children or the role of immigrant women as providers of care. To structure the development of the subject I have relied primarily on feminist theories and specifically in the thesis presented by different authors to be found in the literature, especially Isabel Valle, Martha C. Nussbaum, Lena Dominelli and Eileen MacLeod. Based on an approach to the conception of care as a basic right of people and its historical roots in the domestic sphere perpetuating situations of submission in women, is to approach proposals that aim, ensuring care to those in need, beyond the current state of infringement of the rights of women and provide real possibilities, and structural, to exercise the right not to care as a contribution to personal and social development of women.
