- Abstract
This article discusses the author's experience as a US Fulbright Scholar in the Czech Republic, where they conducted research on math mindfulness and collaborated with teachers and students. The author's research focused on exploring the implementation and impact of a Math Mindfulness Seminar Series (MMSS) on preservice elementary teachers in Prague. The study found that the intervention group experienced a deepened understanding of personalized learning in mathematics and an improved outlook toward teaching and learning math. The author also engaged in presentations and collaborations with educators in other countries, sharing research on meeting the needs of gifted mathematics students and supporting early career researchers. Additionally, the author learned about the scheme-oriented education in mathematics (SEM) model, which emphasizes a humanistic framework and task-based interviews to support children's learning of math. The author concludes by reflecting on the transformative nature of their Fulbright experience and encourages others to prioritize self-care in order to better support their students.
