- Title
RURAL-URBAN HEROISM IN MILITARY ACTION.
- Authors
Gee, Wilson
- Abstract
The article discusses several issues in relation to rural-urban heroism in the U.S. During the Civil War, the U.S. Congress authorized Congressional Medal of Honor awards to be prepared and presented in the name of Congress to non-commissioned officers and privates for their gallantry in action. A distinguished-service medal is similarly awarded by the President for exceptionally meritorious service to the government in a duty of great responsibility. The Congressional Medal of Honor are limited in number and the distinguished-service medals portray largely organizational genius of a high order.
