- Abstract
The article presents a study on the results of the experimental development and use of nominal magnetorheological (MR) damper assembly to control vibration in a free-plan tall building in Santiago, Chile. The study performs cyclic and hybrid simulations for the damper prototype having 120 kiloNewtons (kN) nominal target capacity and 160-ton tuned masses. It adds that the damper, which analytical estimations show good global building responses, was validated by hybrid and pull-back tests of 10 centimeter amplitude. Result shows that the MR damper used has performance similar to a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) controller and can effectively control tuned inertial mass (TM) displacements.
