- Abstract
An essay is presented on analyzing chairs as a part of cinematic spectatorship. Topics discussed include determination of chairs as a sign of authority and status, mode of immersion attention and stillness provided by chairs for spectatorship for greater mental action, and views of composer John Barry and poet Epes Sargent on the importance of architecture in cinema theaters. Other topics include theatrical transformations like enlargement of screens and cushioned seats with cup holders.
