Methodological reflections on the study of the emigre actor.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article suggests ways through which research on the interplay between the viability of the career of European actors and cultural background can be advanced. The author proposes that emigre actors be examined as commodities resulting from a mode of production. Mode of production can be classified in three facets, namely the activity of production, the structure of the output and reception or consumption of the output. The first one is explored by citing factors that influence the meanings and effects of European actors in American films and the extent to which European actors are allowed to express their true selves.
