- Abstract
The process of formation of the working class in the city of Vitoria (province of Álava) is investigated starting from the industrial pole that was implanted since the 50s. We focus attention on eight life stories, exposed in interviews with workers and workers who lived in that city. The study includes the bibliographical and journalistic sources. The industrialization project built a "new Vitoria", and the immigrants who arrived there were, mostly, day laborers or small landowners who escaped from extremely difficult living conditions. The article covers the process of construction of this "new" working class, from the development of a common experience that consolidated the workers' struggle, changing the history of Spain forever.
