- Title
Drug development: Longer-lived proteins.
- Authors
Hubbell, Jeffrey A.
- Abstract
The article discusses the history and development of protein drugs. It states that a number of approved protein drugs have emerged since 1985 due to the desire of genetic engineers to provide medication for metabolic, reproductive and hormonal disorders. It mentions that these engineers discovered the adaption of nature's structures to boost the effectiveness of the drugs. It notes that the concept of polymer attachment to proteins was also conceived to prolong its effect in treating diseases.
