- Abstract
An interview with Wellesley College historian and professor Susan Reverby is presented. When asked about the reason of the research study on syphilis by the U.S. Public Health Service among Guatemalans, she refers to its aim to prove whether penicillin could also be used as a prophylaxis. Reverby argues on how the study was conducted and approved. She comments on the importance of institutional review boards, and on the understanding and application of informed consent in international trials.
