Title
Quantum physics: Beam Yb up.
Abstract
The article discusses research by Steven Olmschenk and colleagues of the University of Maryland, College Park, attempting to solve the problem of the direct handling of quantum information without destroying it. The team used ytterbium ions (Yb+) and the manipulation of light to transpose a particle's quantum state onto its blank partner which is called quantum teleportation. Details regarding their use of stimulated ions to release photons are presented.
