- Abstract
In winter 2020/2021 a total of 19 researchers surveyed 25 potential bat hibernacula in Bosnia and Herzegovina and detected eight bat species based on visual observations and bone remains: Rhinolophus hipposideros, R. ferrumequinum, R. euryale, M. oxygnathus, M. capaccinii, Nyctalus noctula, Barbastella barbastellus and Miniopterus schreibersii. In addition, Pipistrellus pipistrellus, P. kuhlii, Nyctalus noctula and Tadarida teniotis as well as individuals from the P. kuhlii/nathusii group were identified based on the analysis of recorded echolocation signals. The number of sites visited in winter was significantly lower than 2019/2020, but the discovery of four large colonies in the Uvir cave made up for it, including the colony of B. barbastellus of over 263 animals. The most frequently recorded species was R. hipposideros (52% of sites), followed by R. ferrumequinum (24% of sites), while bats of Mi. schreibersii species were detected in the highest number, but almost all of them at only two surveyed sites.
