- Abstract
This article discusses a study which analyzed the effect of flood mitigation infrastructure development on agriculture in floods in the Mekong River Delta (MRD) in Vietnam. The researchers found that the cultivated surface soil layer in the MRD was only about 50 centimeters and is heavily polluted by acid leached out from deeper soil layers during the dry season. They also noted that positive effects of floods have been lost by the development of flood mitigation infrastructure. They also provided a brief presentation of the measured data analysis of flood variation trends over the 43-year period from 1961 to 2004.
