- Abstract
Raif Ismail Pasha, one of the Ottoman statesmen who lived in the 18th century, was born in Baghdad in 1725-1726 as the son of Ibrahim Pasha from Malatya. After working as his father's chamberlain for a while, he got in hodjas of the imperial council with the rank of small foundation. Afterwards, he served in various state positions such as Gallipoli and Istanbul gunpowder's warden, cavalry and gunsmith clerkship, mint warden, reis effendi, the governorships of Egypt, Crete and Morea, and the guard of Heraklion, Navplion and Belgrade. He was murdered in May 1785 by removing his viziership due to his involvement in the attempts to put Prince Selim on the throne instead of Abdulhamid I. In this direction, this study deals with the life of Raif Ismail Pasha. The reason for this research is to make a contribution, as the life of Raif Ismail Pasha, who was promoted from master to pasha and then killed, could not find a place in modern literature.
