- Abstract
To study the aromatic and medicinal plants existing in the forest and their uses by the local population, a floristic and ethnobotanical study was carried out in the rural communes Sehoul and Sidi-Abderrazak (Maamora region). The objective of this work is to assess the impact of the population on the natural resources of the forest and then look for appropriate methods of valorization and conservation of the natural wealth of the area. Indeed, a floristic inventory was carried out initially. Then, using 780 questionnaires, ethnobotanical surveys were conducted in the field during two campaigns (2011-2012 and 2012-2013).The results of this study showed that the study area is very rich in aromatic and medicinal plants. This wealth constitutes a very important therapeutic and economic source for the local population. Thus 103 plants were recorded. They are divided into 31 families dominated by Asteraceae, Poaceae, Fabaceae and Liliaceae. The majority of these species serve as pasture plants for grazing livestock in the forest and 30 % are defined as medicinal species used for the treatment of several diseases. The ethnobotanical results obtained also show that it is possible to use these plants in the local socioeconomic development, in the framework of valuation of the human and natural potential.
