- Abstract
Screening has been reported to increase the incidence of melanoma I in situ i by 100-460%,7 which could partially explain the heightened risk for incidence inclusive of I in situ i disease observed in white patients. Dear Editor, Patients treated for an initial primary melanoma are recognized to be at risk for second primary melanomas.1 However, it is unknown whether patients with a prior acral melanoma (AM) are at increased risk for nonacral forms of cutaneous melanoma, hereafter referred to as nonacral melanoma (NAM). Thirty-five patients with a history of melanoma that preceded the diagnosis of AM and 23 patients with no subsequent visits at MSKCC were excluded.
