- Abstract
The article discusses the coronation of Charles the Younger, son of Charlemagne, King of the Franks, on Christmas Day 800, when Charlemagne also became Emperor of the Romans. It examines correspondence between Charles the Younger and scholar and poet Alcuin. The author comments on poetry describing the dynamics of Charlemagne's family and court authored by Alcuin and poets Angilbert and Theodulf. Charles the Younger's brothers Pippin of Italy and Louis of Aquitaine and his half-brother Pippin the Hunchback are also considered.
