- Abstract
The article "Focus on Inorganics: Inorganic Battery Materials" deals with the search for alternatives to lithium-ion batteries due to the environmental damage associated with lithium mining. Various battery concepts such as sodium, potassium, and magnesium batteries are introduced, which are also referred to as post-lithium batteries. Currently, lithium-ion batteries are used for mobile applications, while redox flow batteries are suitable for stationary applications. The article also mentions the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2019, which was awarded for lithium-ion batteries. Alternative charge carriers such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, zinc, calcium, and aluminum are also discussed, but they are mostly still in the laboratory stage.
