- Abstract
A study published in the British Journal of Dermatology found that individuals with atopic dermatitis (AD) are more likely to be diagnosed with eating disorders (EDs) such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and unspecified and other specified EDs. The study used data from a diverse US population and suggests that there is a significant relationship between AD and EDs. Possible explanations for this association include the impact of AD on body image and quality of life, the use of EDs as coping mechanisms, and shared pathways of immune dysregulation. However, the study acknowledges limitations such as the lack of disease severity stratification and clinical confirmation of diagnoses, highlighting the need for further research.
