- Title
SUPPLY: A TALE OF TWO BUBBLES.
- Authors
Calabria, Mark A.
- Abstract
The article discusses so-called supply-side economic factors in the fluctuation of the U.S. housing markets and dot-com stocks in the late 20th century and early 21st century. The article analyzes housing starts and prices and their simultaneous rise in 2005 and 2006 and what the author calls the market distortions of government entities such as Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Housing Administration (FHA). It also examines the rise in price for equities in Internet and technology stocks in the 1990s and the impact of initial public offerings (IPO) on price.
