- Abstract
The article "What does 'systemically relevant' really mean?" in the Berlin Journal for Sociology discusses the meaning of the term "systemic relevance" in various contexts. The term was first used during the financial and Euro crisis after 2008 to justify the rescue of large investment banks. During the Covid pandemic, the term gained a new meaning as the essential importance of professions in basic services was highlighted. The article emphasizes the systemic relevance of sociology and its role in observing and analyzing society. The role of academic journals in scientific publishing is also discussed. The article addresses various topics, including the quality and comprehensibility of texts, the significance of scientific journals, the digitization of industrial work, the role of intellectuals, the closure of schools during the Corona pandemic, and the change in the capitalist time regime. It emphasizes that scientific journals play an important role and that digitization in the industry leads to systemic rationalization. It also discusses how the role of intellectuals has changed over time and how the closure of schools during the pandemic has highlighted the importance of the education system. Finally, the question of the change in the time regime in relation to pandemic policy is discussed.
