- Abstract
This review examines progress in the treatment of metastatic melanoma seen in the past 5 years. It focuses on the development of targeted therapies and immune checkpoint inhibitors that have dramatically changed the prognosis for this group of patients. Results from clinical trials of agents used alone and in combination are described. Toxicities specific to new classes of drugs are discussed. Current knowledge about the duration and sequencing of treatments is presented, along with a look at emerging therapeutic agents now entering into early trials.
