- Abstract
The article discusses German church history and the intellectual legacy of Protestant church historian Wilhelm Niemöller. The author reflects on differing historiographical methods in scholarship on topics such as Protestant support for dictator Adolf Hitler, antagonism between Christian churches and the Nazi movement, and the conflation of love of country with love of God. Historians discussed include John Conway, Doris Bergen, and Manfred Gailus.
