- Abstract
The article discusses the life of Helen Mar Kimball Whitney, a plural wife of Mormon leader Joseph Smith. The author is concerned with the ways in which Kimball's experiences can help explain 19th-century Mormon spiritual passages. Smith's religious doctrines related to polygamy are outlined. Kimball's religious faith as it related to plural marriage is analyzed.
