- Title
Ear flashing behaviour of cape hares ( Lepus capensis) in South Africa.
- Authors
Kamler, Jan F.
- Abstract
The article presents a study on the ear flashing behavior of cape hares (Lepus capensis) in South Africa in order to determine if the cape hares are in fact exhibiting true ear flashing behavior. Through pseudo-chases by vehicle, the researcher began documenting the exact behaviors that he noticed, including the date and the speed at which the vehicle was traveling. This study was the first report of ear flashing behavior of the Lepus species in Africa. The researcher believes that the ear flashing behavior is an adaptation to confuse predators when being chased at high speeds.
