- Abstract
The article focuses on the remarks given by "Ocular Surgery News" editor Eric D. Donnenfeld at Hawaiian Eye 2009 on preoperative and postoperative strategies to address the ocular surface of patients undergoing LASIK and photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). He said that a review of articles found that about 36 percent of patients had dry eye after LASIK and 33 percent of patients had dry eye before surgery. He stressed the need of refractive surgeons to assess at-risk LASIK candidates. He mentioned immunosuppressive drugs that optimize the ocular surface.
