- Abstract
The article focuses on the depiction of the United States as a discriminatory paradise in "Absalom, Absalom!," by William Faulkner and "Paradise," by Toni Morrison. Particular attention is given to the author's reading of "Paradise," as a retelling of "Absalom, Absalom!," from the perspective of an African-American female author. Themes such as the American dream, exclusion, and racial and social biases are also discussed.
