- Abstract
The article discusses the history of the Law Department of Missouri's Washington University which was established in 1867, and it mentions the social, political, military, and legal instability in St. Louis, Missouri and across the state in the 1800s. The replacement of the first Missouri Constitution with the anti-slavery Constitution in 1866 is addressed, along with a resurgence of the Jacksonianism form of democracy which is associated with U.S. President Andrew Jackson.
