- Title
Muirhead Bone and the Society of XII.
- Authors
Bone, Sylvester
- Abstract
The article focuses on Scottish artist Muirhead Bone's membership in the Society of XII in London, England. The reason for coming together as a society was to demonstrate the available range and quality of black-and-white images. Muirhead had come to the inaugural meeting of the group with an offer from Obach & Co., the Bond Street gallery, to hold an annual exhibition of the new society. The job of the society's secretary fell almost automatically to Muirhead. In this role his achievement was to have helped devise and run a society of notoriously independent artists that held together to the general satisfaction and mutual profits of its members.
