- Abstract
The article explores the representation of French invaders from the French Revolution to the Channel Tunnel in modern art. Topics include the prospect of French invasion in the set of prints by caricaturist James Gillray during the revolutionary and Napoleonic conflicts including "Consequences of a Successful French Invasion" and the satire on the defenseless state of England against foreign invasion depicted in the painting "Strayed Sheep" by William Holman Hunt.
