The article discusses a pair of early 19th-century costume albums created by the English artists John Augustus Atkinson and James Walker: "A Picturesque Representation of the Manners, Customs and Amusements of the Russians" and "A Picturesque Representation of the Military, Naval, and Miscellaneous Costumes of Great Britain." The author comments on the role played by each artist in the production of the albums, noting that while Atkinson was responsible for the pictorial content, Walker wrote commentaries in English and French.
