- Title
Milton's Dramatization of the Godhead in Paradise Lost.
- Authors
Ryken, Leland
- Abstract
The article analyzes the poem "Paradise Lost" by John Milton. Particular attention is given to Milton's ambiguous identification of the deity who speaks with Adam in Book VII as the author responds to an essay by scholar William S. Goodfellow. The author disagrees with Goodfellow's assertion that the vagueness of the deity's identity is limited to Book VII, suggesting that the motif of the indefinite deity encompasses the entire poem.
