- Abstract
The article presents a study which examined the effects of ileorectal anastomosis (IRA) on postoperative complications and functional outcomes of secondary protectomy and ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). Data on functional outcomes for 185 patients reveal that conversion from IRA to IPAA may not be possible in patients with FAP. According to the study, pouch outcomes in successful conversions are similar but with frequent wound infections.
