- Abstract
Introduction: Condylar hyperplasia (CH) is the pathology of the temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) that is characterized by excessive mandibular growth usually unilateral. It can occur at any age predominantly in women. The various possible etiologies of CH, includes neoplasia, trauma, infection, abnormal condylar loading and aberrant growth factors. It clinically presents as mandibular prognathism; unilateral enlargement of the condyle, neck, ramus, and body; facial asymmetry; malocclusion; posterior crossbite and pain. The management of condylar hyperplasia in a growing child is by a high condylectomy repositioning the articular discs, performing the appropriate orthognathic surgical procedures. Case Report: A 10-year-old girl who was diagnosed with unilateral condylar hyperplasia with presenting features of unilateral posterior cross bite, dental midline shift and deflection of mandible while opening the mandible. This case report reflects the various management options available today focusing mainly on the nonsurgical options considering the age of the child. Clinical Significance: Condylar hyperplasia is always managed in a surgical perspective. This case focuses on the nonsurgical perspective.
