- Abstract
The article discusses a study which analyzed whether different habitat features and game management policies, especially the imposition of restrictions inside the Nature 2000 Network, correlate negatively with results associated with small-game bag hunting in Alentejo, Portugal. Records gathered by the country's National Forest Authority regarding game hunting located inside and outside the network were compared in order to develop predictive models for hare, red-legged partridge and wild rabbit to improve habitat and population management of the species. It concludes that the sites within the Nature 2000 Network, specifically Cabrela and Monfurado, did not correlate significantly with the game bags of hare and red-legged partridge but had a negative influence on rabbit hunting results.
