- Abstract
The article explores the history of the establishment of the Missouri National Recreational River in South Dakota and Nebraska. Emphasis is give to the topic of land erosion and riverbank stabilization efforts resulting from the construction of dams and river engineering. Other topics include the U.S. Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, cooperative management agreements for administration of river conservation, and recreational development.
