- Abstract
A Chinese expert in traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, Professor Yang Sanjia, is famous at treating apoplexy. According to him, apoplexy is most likely related to both internal wind and external wind, so while dispelling wind, promoting circulation and removing blood stasis in treating early stage apoplexy, it is also important to select acupuncture points with a focus on points on the head, neck and four limbs. When treating apoplexy in the recovery phase, he would adopt the methods of removing wind and nourishing blood, nourishing water and retaining wood, tonifying qi and replenishing essence as well as promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis with traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture. He is good at treating hand and foot swelling in the hemiplegic side by needling Zulinqi (GB 41) and Pianli (LI 6) acupoints. Besides apoplexy, his theory of removing wind has provided guidance in the treatment of other diseases.
