- Abstract
The narrative weaves between lengthy quotations of Marley's uncensored thoughts and Sojoyner's inner monologue, processing his friend's story on the page. It is at the Southern California Library (SCL) that he meets the beating heart of "Joy and Pain", a young man called Marley who is born and bred of the Vermont Corridor in South L.A. Marley comes to the SCL looking for rent assistance. The A side chapters depict Marley's personal life in his own words, often as he and Sojoyner sit in city traffic together.
