- Abstract
The article discusses how independent and/or lesbian, gay, and transgender films like "Boys Don't Cry," directed by Kimberly Peirce, and "Monster," directed by Patty Jenkins made their protagonists and their stories intelligible and compelling to a general audience. It is said that the protagonists depends on their presentation within recognizable genres which often tell conventional stories with predicable plots.
