- Abstract
The article presents the development of communication of text messages through cell phones and Internet. An overview of the use of cell phones, the first technology to be used differently by people of different age groups mainly by the young generation using their thumb, instant messaging, text messaging or short message service being regularly used by 65% of the young sending about 500 billion messages a day, is presented. Different types of instant messaging, popular instant messaging clients including ICQ, AIM, and Microsoft Messenger, their services and a primer of the abbreviated messages with complex codes to signify the most used common words enabling a really instant messaging, are also presented.
