- Title
The Misuse of Technology.
- Authors
Yeaman, Andrew R. J.
- Abstract
The article presents information on misuse of technology. A key factor in being an ethical professional is the ability to distinguish between technology used appropriately and technology used inappropriately. The success of correct usage is always welcome but misuse should be acknowledged too. For a professional technologist, misuse is a significant type of failure. Even in the hands of fully qualified and experienced professionals, technology can be unpredictable and produce results impossible to control. Muckraking is the dark side of investigative reporting. Muckrakers insinuate their way in to observe and to solicit comments without giving away, for as long as possible, that their intentions are hostile. Misuse is one of the concepts necessary for maintaining a profession. The misuse of technology has not been prohibited by legislation but nonetheless exists. In the hands of teachers with feeble mental powers and narrow resources, it is liable to become merely a means of entertainment. Having no ideas, they subtitute technology to kill time. The extent of this is probably beyond belief, and is the occasion for some opposition to computerization.
