- Title
American Oaks in the Landscape.
- Authors
Sternberg, Guy
- Abstract
The article discusses several species of the genus Quercus, the proposed National Tree of the United States. The Q. palustris is referred to as a nurseryman's tree because it is easy to propagate, transplant and grows fast. It mentions the two groups of oak trees, namely the black oaks where Q. Rubra, Q. kelloggii and Q. velutina belong and the white oak group whose species has the longest life spans, sweetest acorns and most durable. It suggests that oaks should be a primary component of the U.S. nucleus of trees for the future.
