- Abstract
The article presents an examination into the history of the marine turbine, invented and showcased by the British engineer Charles Parsons at the turn of the 20th century. The early displays and interpretations of the marine turbine's design are discussed, evaluating the extent to which the measurement and dimensions of the device affected its its reception within the engineering community. The social work of Parsons in promoting the design is analyzed and complimented, suggesting that it was the narrative features of his promotions which led to its success.
