- Abstract
The article discusses a model-evidence link (MEL) diagram, an instruction scaffold designed to improve students' ability to critically evaluate scientific arguments as well as increase their comprehension of fundamental science concepts. It looks at how critical evaluation and argumentation exist as part of scientific practices, noting their role in the science education standards "A Framework for K-12 Science Education." Suggestions are provided for using a MEL diagram in a lesson plan.
