- Abstract
Purpose: To analyze the relationship between climate change mitigation practices and the performance of Brazilian industrial companies. Method/design/approach: Method: The study is characterized as exploratory and descriptive, has a qualitative and a quantitative stage through an e-survey with 39 Brazilian companies in the industrial sector. Mitigation practices were adopted as independent variables and performances as dependent variables: financial, innovative, production, market and exporter. Results and conclusion: It was possible to identify existing relationships between mitigation practices and different dimensions of business performance, especially with regard to innovation. There is still evidence that actions to control greenhouse gas emissions can lead to financial, image and productivity gains. Research implications: Understanding the mitigation practices adopted by industries contributes to their dissemination and propagation, and may provide a basis for other companies. In addition, understanding the relevance and benefits of adopting these practices helps to mitigate the social and environmental impacts on society. Originality/value: The development of a model integrating mitigation practices and business performance can be considered a theoretical contribution, since in the literature there are found initiatives that address the issues unilaterally.
